Though they started making VHS Video Tapes in the 1970s I don't remember using a VHS player-recorder until around 1982

It changed TV forever because before this you had to wait a long time to see things but with Video Tape it was the first time you could tape things on TV as they were shown first run or in Reruns. So, before this everyone was sort of the Victim of Commercials before Video taping too.

  • Early 1970s: JVC engineers started working on the consumer video system.
  • September 9, 1976: JVC introduced the first VHS machine (the Victor HR-3300) in Japan.
  • October 31, 1976: Stores in Tokyo started selling the system.
  • August 23, 1977: The first VHS-compatible VCR (the RCA VBT200) arrived in the United States.
