I learned a slightly different version of this in the 1980s when I first became interested in Tibetan Buddhism
A Version like this is more common today I find:
Immeasurables
The Root Verse
May all sentient beings enjoy happiness and the root of happiness.
May they be free from suffering and the root of suffering.
May they not be separated from the great happiness devoid of suffering.
May they dwell in the great equanimity free from passion aggression and ignorance.
However, the version I learned went like this:
May all beings attain Bliss and the Cause of Bliss
May all beings be free from Suffering and the Cause of Suffering
May all beings never be without the Supreme Bliss and the Cause of Bliss
May all beings never be without the supreme bliss that is free from all near and far all grasping and aversion.
The above version I began to learn about 1980 when I was initiated into the Initiation in Ashland, Oregon by Gyaltrul Rinpoche of "The Sword which pierces all defilement" otherwise known as "The 1000 Buddhas empowerment". This initiation was given above the Green Leaf Restaurant in Ashland Oregon then and I lived with my wife and children then in Mt. Shasta which is about 1 1/2 hours by car away from Ashland.
