I long for the days when people could actually afford to do things

 The last time this happened was from about 1950 until the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo. Like now, the price of oil affects everything in people's lives of whether they can travel easily or whether they can afford to buy food and almost everything else in their lives including the price of lumber and other things to actually build a decent house to live in. So, more and more people are becoming angry at their lot in life worldwide and I worry about how crazy this is starting to make people more and more.

I was lucky enough to grow up in an age of plenty where people could afford to buy food and gas. For example, in the 1950s a man 17 years old (it's true this was a white man's world then though) where a man 17 years old could afford to buy a car and buy a home and support 5 people on 40 hours a week working as a carpenter or garbage man then.

This is likely no longer true. 

The highest return of what you could buy with a dollar was 1968 for people in the U.S. I was lucky enough to be 20 years old then and life was pretty good if you weren't drafted and sent to Viet Nam to die or get PTSD then. So, at age 20 I could afford to buy a brand new 1968 Camaro (as long as I lived at home I could afford the payments per month). And back then, a 1968 Camaro brand new was only 3500 dollars too. So, imagine a 20 year old being able to afford to do this working full time now.

College used to mean that you could make enough money to survive ongoing. Now it only means that you might survive when people without a college education might not survive at all worldwide.

The discipline of 4 years of college at least often brings a better life as long as you aren't saddled with so many student loans that you can never afford to buy a house for yourself and your family (if you have one).

My wife's best friend's kids for example, both had good jobs and want to buy a house, which would have worked easily from about 1945 to 1973 during the Arab Oil Embargo. It would have worked like it did for me and my friends and my father until 1980 or even 1990 where land and building materials were cheap enough to actually buy the land and build your own house on weekends like my father and I built his and Mom's retirement home from 1968 to 1980 when he actually retired.

So, even though he passed away in 1985 at age 69 we still built his dream home on 2 1/2 acres in the high Desert between Yucca Valley and Landers in Southern California on the high Desert. He liked it there because the temperatures were under 110 to 115 degrees usually in the summers whereas if you lived in Palm Springs at lower elevation it might go to 120 to 125 degrees a few days a year. So, Palm Springs is pretty good in the winters where it almost always stays around the 70s during the winter or higher during the days there. But, in the summers if you aren't careful walking around you might die from the heat.

I can remember when my son was going to college there of visiting him and going to a movie with him at "The River" which is a mall in the Palm Springs area then and getting out of that theater around midnight and it still being 100 degrees and opening up my car or truck and needing to turn on the air conditioner at midnight in the car before I even wanted to get in the car.

Anyway, I long for the days when people could actually afford to live and not forced out of their homes in order to keep buying food to eat.

So, life now is much more about Survival of the fittest with the Law of the Jungle in place worldwide more than anytime in my life time of 78 years so far.

And with Trump in place there is death and suffering everywhere because of his unbelievable selfishness and lack of empathy and compassion for people here on earth so under him all this is just getting worse every day for most people on earth.

So, the struggle to survive goes on and the Golden Age from 1950 to 1980 or 1990 is long gone now where people could much better afford to eat and to stay alive and to stay more sane than now.

We have I guess returned to survival of the fittest which just tends to make criminals of people more than anything else just like Trump is presently one of the biggest criminals on earth right now with people dying (14 million deaths by Trump just ending USAID) worldwide by 2030.
