Basically if I understand this correctly the Pacific Plate and Nazca plate sort of pushed under the South American Plate and raised the Andes higher into the air to some degree. When the South American plate (snapped back) it caused the earthquake and Tsunamis. So, the 8.2 Earthquake was  caused by the Nazca plate pushing under the South American plate.
