I just talked with a friend who said fire ash was raining down on him and he owns 2 1/2 acres near Everitt Memorial highway which goes up the mountain and is likely open up as far as Bunny Flat this time of year. It might even have opened up as far as Panther Meadows by now because of the low snow year and drought they are having.
I told him that he will be able to see which ash has hot embers by night fall. He's going to stay there as long as he has but at least he was able to get fire insurance this last year so he's prepared in that way in case the worst happens. His son's house burned down last summer in Talent Oregon by the way and they are rebuilding because they had fire insurance on that house too. But, I could hear in my friend's voice that this might be it this year for his 2 1/2 acres too which is hard for anyone to face when you have been building and working on your dream home and organic garden now since around the mid 1970s.
I told him the most important thing was that he and his girlfriend needed to stay alive.
