Goyahkla, or Geronimo as he’s more famously known, was a leader in the Apache tribe. Born in 1829, Geronimo was known as the “last Native American leader to formally surrender to the US military,” and was taken as a prisoner of war in the last 20 years of his life. This photo was taken in 1887.
