Many of New York’s weather-related fatalities were in Erie County, where some people had died of exposure or due to cardiac events while shoveling or blowing snow, Poloncarz said in the news conference, citing the findings of the county’s medical examiner’s office.

Other fatalities were from falling off of roofs and dying trying to get the snow off the roofs before roofs collapsed under the weight of the snow.

In 1992 I was in Mt. Shasta city for their epic snowstorms and saw 12 feet of snow in town. Then people were also falling off of roofs and getting lost in the snow banks they fell into. Also, some people hoist snow blowers onto roofs to make the job quicker but falling off a roof with your snow blower still running in your hands isn't fun either. At that time you had nowhere to park your car or truck unless you went out and moved a site the size of your vehicle with a snow blower or snow shovel yourself.
