I found a few years ago that it was just too expensive to replace our deck again with Redwood this time

Also, there is only so much redwood and you want to encourage Redwood Groves which are mostly in California to still be here 100 years from now if possible. We had had a Redwood Deck since we first moved into this house in 1999 and my youngest daughter was 3 years old then. However, I found going barefoot on this deck you could get slivers pretty easily if you weren't really careful. And being an old Southern California Surfer out of the 1960s I tend still to go barefoot a lot and I even drive a car barefoot if it's warm enough to do this because I wear a size 15 shoe and the gas pedal is pretty small if you are wearing a size 15 shoe so barefoot I can feel better what I'm driving (car or truck or whatever vehicle I'm driving. Also, I have almost crashed with Beach walker sandals on in Southern California before because the loops get caught in the gas pedal or brake pedal and I almost had an accident. This made me want to drive barefoot even more just to stay alive.

So, anyway rather than pay 100,000 to 120,000 for a new redwood deck we paid around 60,000 dollars for a redwood looking Timber Tech Deck instead and since the Hot tub is set in part of the deck this is good too. So, you can look at all the pine trees (big and small and our roses and birds and hummingbirds) when you are in the hot tub any time or any temperature during the year day or night which is nice too.

NOTE: By the way it is legal in California to drive barefoot because so many people have died over the years by getting their sandal straps caught around the gas pedal or brake pedal or clutch pedal in the past.
