We were watching the Italian Series Lidia Poet about the first woman to practice law in Italy and we saw someone riding a bicycle. I'm thinking it was supposed to be 1883 or around there in Turin Italy. So, my wife says to me: "When were bicycles invented?" So, I looked it up and the first one didn't even have pedals to pedal with. Instead you sort of ran with it. And I'm not even sure it had a brake other than people's feet. Not sure.

The bicycle evolved over several decades before arriving at the pedal-driven models we know today:
- 1860s: French carriage makers Ernest Michaux and Pierre Lallement developed the first commercially successful pedal-driven velocipede, often referred to as a "boneshaker".
- 1870s:The iconic "Penny-Farthing" (or High Wheeler) was introduced, featuring a massive front wheel for greater speed.
- 1885: The "safety bicycle" was invented by John Kemp Starley. It featured two equally sized wheels, a chain drive, and pedals—a design that remains the standard for modern bicycles.
