The Mithras was an Ancient God worshipped in a Roman Mystery religion

Actually this sort of thing makes sense. At that time women were not educated at all in Rome, ONLY MEN were educated then. I ran into this sort of thing in India where women weren't educated either and they sort of giggled like little girls when they met me in families I met then. It was like meeting women over 16 that were like 8 to 12 year old girls that all they could do was giggle when they met a man because of no education whatsoever. At the time in India I was sort of horrified that women were infantalized like this at the time sometimes there. It made me afraid for them that they didn't know enough to survive without males at all.

Who was Mithras? : r/GreekMythology
Mithras was an ancient god worshipped in a secretive, all-male Roman mystery religion known as Mithraism between the 1st and 4th centuries CE.
Origins and Evolution
  • Persian Roots: The name and figure derive from the ancient Indo-Iranian god Mithra, who was associated with light, justice, and contracts as early as 1400 BCE.
  • Roman Transformation: The Roman cult of Mithras emerged in the late 1st century CE and developed its own unique mythology and iconography distinct from Persian traditions.
  • Followers: The religion was especially popular among Roman soldiers, merchants, and imperial bureaucrats

Beliefs and Imagery
  • The Tauroctony: The central image in every temple shows Mithras wearing a Phrygian cap and slaying a sacred bull, an act symbolizing cosmic renewal and the triumph of light over darkness.
  • Cosmic Order: Reliefs often include a dog, snake, scorpion, and raven participating in the bull's sacrifice to represent life, fertility, and opposing cosmic forces.
Practices and Temples
  • Mithraea: Followers practiced their rituals in dark, subterranean, or cave-like temples designed to mimic the cosmos.
  • Initiation Ranks: The cult featured seven strict hierarchical grades of initiation, ranging from the Raven (Corax) to the Father (Pater).
  • Decline: The religion faded in the late 4th century CE following the rise of Christianity and the legal suppression of pagan cults.
