are moving robotic platforms with machine guns used in the Ukraine war?

 begin quotes:

Ukraine's Drone War Comes Down to Earth - CEPA
Yes, moving robotic platforms equipped with machine guns are actively used in the Ukraine war. Known as Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs), these remotely operated machines—ranging from tracked platforms to small wheeled rovers—are deployed to the front lines to conduct combat missions, evacuate the wounded, and deliver supplies, keeping human soldiers further out of harm's way.
How They Are Used
  • Remote Combat: Platforms like those produced by Ukrainian defense companies DevDroid and others are equipped with camera arrays and mounts for heavy weapons, including the M2 Browning machine gun and grenade launchers. Operators control the robots from protected command centers or dugouts, allowing them to engage Russian forces without exposing infantry to direct return fire.
  • Long-Range Patrolling: In one widely noted tactical deployment, a single UGV armed with a machine gun held an independent frontline position in eastern Ukraine for 45 days, returning to base only for maintenance and reloading.
  • Operational Scale: The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported an exponential surge in robotic operations, with thousands of frontline UGV missions conducted each month involving logistics, casualty evacuation, and combat.
  • Tactical Breakthroughs: Ukrainian officials have cited successful localized operations where unmanned ground platforms and aerial drones worked in tandem to capture enemy positions without the direct involvement of ground infantry.
Capabilities and Limitations
  • Why They Are Effective: Robots do not experience fatigue, morale drops, or fear. Because they can travel into heavily monitored "kill zones," they allow military forces to maintain pressure on entrenched positions while preserving troop numbers.
  • Drawbacks on the Battlefield: While highly effective, these robots face several distinct challenges. Their movements are often limited by rough, debris-strewn terrain, battery or payload constraints, and the constant threat of electronic warfare and signal jamming from Russian forces.
