The response has not been perfect but humans aren't perfect and since we are a unique country in the world in many ways our response to this crisis is going to be unique.
I think the criticism of the Obama administration is not correct. In fact, it would have been handled much worse by Republicans, especially if someone was in the Presidency that didn't believe in medical science that much because they were a creationist. A leader who was a creationist would create some of the same problems as is causing the deaths of people in Liberia where culture and religion is causing thousands of deaths at this point.
The only response that will save lives in the U.S. is likely a very detailed medical response that will be very tedious for everyone (both medical and public officials) and there will be many cries of people from all sides of the aisle as this tediousness increases with potential exposures.
However, this will be the only thing that can keep 1/3 to 1/2 of the American people alive and not dead from Ebola in this era where world flight of so many takes place between countries.
It is quite possible that other countries besides Liberia without good infrastructures in place will also be vulnerable to Ebola over time throughout the world. Or, humans may nip this in the bud by December or June.
However, if it isn't stopped by June 2015 I believe Ebola will be sort of like AIDS in the world, decimating populations like AIDS has over time.
But, this likely isn't going to happen in the U.S. because of Triage and tedious research of potential exposures and separating out people with potential exposures for 21 days.
The real danger worldwide regarding Ebola is in people who are criminals or illegally in any country who would not report their illness to local authorities. This situation could trigger thousands to millions of deaths in situations like this worldwide over time.
