In the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" this is exactly what happens. This was ONLY a movie but you get the point that this is an actual possibility. Maybe not that fast, maybe not suddenly but we may be moving in this direction.
Already we know that as cloud cover is increasing from Global Warming the waters are rising quickly in temperature just as the landed masses generally are decreasing in temperatures ( on a year round basis) simply because the increased cloud cover is reducing the average ground temperatures worldwide now simply from less sunlight (over a 365 day a year basis).
If you have ever noticed once 1 inch of snow has stuck to the ground rather than melting, a foot or two or more snow has no trouble then sticking too. IN a fluke year with polar vortex slips like this one you could see theoretically there could be a year (or more) where snow stays from the north pole to the northern Mexico Border for example. This is not impossible under present conditions of landed masses losing their average year around temperatures now as the oceans rise in temperature.
And as this happens, fluke snow storms are more and more likely to stick on the ground and not melt more and more on a year around basis because snow sticking (what times of year it sticks rather than melts) governs a lot to do with Ice Ages. So, as the lands cool more and more the snow is going to stick more year around in various places.
So, the likelihood of snow one or more years from the north pole down to about the Mexico border is more potentially likely than you and I might presently think.
If you look at water it is the right color (blue or green) which is dark enough to absorb sunlight and heat. Whereas on the lands the heat only stays about 1 inch to one foot at most in the landed areas. This allows lands to heat or cool much quicker whereas heat stays trapped in the oceans. Because of this many land mammals during the last ice age had to retreat into the warmer waters. It is thought that sea lions were once wolves and that Sea Elephants were once something resembling bears before the last ice age which is why they had to go into the oceans to not freeze to death when the last ice age began on land.
Likewise, humans have had to adapt to ice ages to through migrations as long as humans have survived on earth. We will have to do this in the future ice ages too here on earth.
