If you are building a blog yourself somewhere whether it is a free one like this one or another kind, here is something you should likely know.
From 2007 in the fall when I started this site I never looked at my Stats page until 2011. In 2011 I finally looked at my stats page and was completely surprised at what my readers actually wanted to read. It was something entirely different than I thought.
So, I realized then that I could give my readers what they were interested in and also what I was interested in because on many levels our interests were the same. So, I began to give readers what they wanted more.
However, as time has gone one and I now am 74 I'm less about that than I once was. I'm more about what I think personally is important partly because as I get older and older maintaining a web site is more about a personal discipline like a diet or exercise or keeping fit in ways both mentally and physically and less about trying to have such a large audience reading my works. As you age different things become more important to you. Retirement means many things to many people but also it means different things at different ages.
My wife said to me when we were in our 50s and 60s. "Oh, we will travel in our 70s!" and I said to her: "I don't think that's going to happen. I think we should travel more now." then she said, "I want our daughter to graduate at least High school before we travel more." And I said, " When I look into the future there are things that will prevent us from traveling like you want us to."
And I was right. Covid made it not desirable for people in their late 60 and 70s to travel. Now, the war in Ukraine makes it less desirable to travel too. So, I was prescient in what I saw in the future. Next, extreme weather will make it less desirable to travel for people 60s and above too, (at least by plane). This is what I'm presently thinking. Then in 2014 my wife had a knee replacement and I had a burst appendix in 2015 which caused from the operation upon it a hernia which I am still living with today.
So, traveling has completely changed just like I intuited it would by my 70s. we will likely go to Hawaii with another couple in the fall if covid is not to bad in some new variant so that's good and if one or more of my kids move back to Europe I will fly and visit them there. Also, one of my children might move back to South Korea as well. However, I'm not sure I'm good for another 11 or 12 hour flight to anywhere. Even going to Europe I likely would fly to the east coast of the U.S. and hang out for a week or so before I flew to Europe again and then maybe spend several weeks to a month before I flew back from Europe. It's just about maintaining your health ongoing when you are now for me in your mid 70s. I can still do this if I'm really really careful but I need to be careful at this age doing literally anything. So, I was right about either of us traveling in my 70s (she is 7 years younger than I am.) I think my wife forgets that her mother passed away at my present age in 1999.
The point of all this is you can likely have as many people visiting your site as you want to, you just have to engineer a site that people really want to visit for their reasons and not yours. So, it can be done it's just you have to engineer your site to draw in readers if that is what you want to do.
