Under this scenario, the Higgs field permeates the universe, and any particles that interact with it are given a mass through the Higgs boson. The more they interact, the heavier they become. Particles that don't interact with the Higgs field are left with no mass at all. end quote from:http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203430404577096330121408786.html
So, if no particle has mass unless it interacts with the Higgs Boson then the Higgs Boson could then theoretically become "The God Particle" because of the way it confers mass upon particles in the universe. For example, if my understanding of this is correct, only particles that have mass can become stars or planets, whereas particles without mass can only become things that emit light and are more in the photon category. Though there may be a third category that I am not accounting for, I think basically that therefore if Higgs Boson can be proved as the particle that confers mass upon a particle then calling it the "God Particle" might be a useful thing for us mostly in popular culture without a physicists educational background.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
