Have a Cold? Keep Your Hearing

I started a new diet almost two weeks ago now because my doctor advised it. However, about 7 days into a basically No-carbohydrate diet my daughter brought home a cold. Now, she being 16 with a young immune system didn't even miss a day of school because she is a dedicated honor student. But, when I got it a few days later because of all the dietary changes and lowered immune system because of a new diet I went down pretty hard under this cold. So, we are now almost a week later. As of last Friday I noticed that my ears were clogging up and yellow stuff was coming out of my sinuses and that sometimes I was coughing. So, I started taking Coricidan HBP to dry it up so I wouldn't get bronchitus or pneumonia and this worked to mainly keep it out of my lungs. However, the troubling thing was what had happened to a friend with a cold like this in January. He almost went deaf because he is single and didn't have a wife to nag him to get to a doctor. So, he almost went deaf the doctor told him. If he had waited another week he would have been deaf in both ears.

Anyway, this type of cold bug that could cause deafness obviously is still around. I considered going to the doctor on Friday but was just too out of it still to pull it off. This morning I emailed my doctor and told him what had happened. But my son who is a nurse said the doctor needs to see you to make an assessment. So, he got me an appointment and drove me there. Today the doctor prescribed the antibiotic Levaquin which he says should clear up sinuses, my ears as well as any chest problems. He also said that if I didn't get relief within 3 days to come back and see him. I'm grateful to have a wife and son to nag me to take care of myself.  I'm grateful to still have my hearing. So, if you get this  cold and your ears start clicking when you swallow it is time to see your doctor to keep your hearing intact.
