CAIRO - Dozens of people from Syrian
President Bashar Assad's own minority sect met in Cairo on Sunday to
send an unusual message to their fellow Alawites back home: Join the
opposition before it is too late.
This actually makes a lot of sense to me because Alawite Shias who are left when Assad is gone or dead would be massacred by Al Qaeda if they hadn't joined with the rebels by then. So, this makes a lot of sense since it is expected that Assad will fall sooner or later. Even if Assad goes away to Russia or someplace like that he would be safe there. But any Alawite Shia or anyone who didn't support the rebels could be massacred along with their families if they don't join up with the Rebels now before he goes.
Another interesting thing is that Secretary of State Kerry warned Iraq about allowing Iran to fly troops and Weapons into Syria through Iraqi airspace. However, Iraq is majority Shia like Iran. So, we'll see where all this leads.
