If you think about it a little this will make perfect sense to you.
Rules for not being stuck in traffic almost anywhere.
However, this doesn't allow for traffic accidents or people working on the road anywhere or fires or hurricanes or tornadoes or earthquakes or other unusual events.
Rule 1.
Never leave until 9 am any weekday morning (unless you leave a city area before 4 am to 6 am)
Rule 2
Never drive anywhere on a Friday or a Sunday afternoon or evening especially through any metropolitan or suburban area
Rule 3
Schedule your trips in the Fall or Spring because kids are in school and their parents aren't usually traveling whenever possible.
Rule 4
This way often you get whole National parks to yourselves and other retired persons of any age.
Rule 5
Get yourself a Golden Eagle pass which gets you into EVERY National Park in the country for Free if you are over 65 (possibly 62 but I think it's 65). It used to cost 20 dollars but now it might be more.
These are some of the most helpful things to understand if you are a senior just getting used to being retired and wanting to Travel the U.S. whenever you can.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
