If you spend a lot of time outdoors like I have all my life, skiing, surfing, traveling, snorkeling, hiking, mountain climbing and rock climbing, riding off road motorcycles etc. you have built up a lot of time in the sun, especially if you live in a place like California where 90% or more of the time it is sunny generally. So, having a beard (short or long protects your face) in a variety of ways from sun damage where the beard covers your face. Also, in the winter time it can keep your face warmer while skiing or hiking in snowy or icy conditions. So, especially if you are an out of doors person like myself it can increase your ability to be outside without causing your skin as much harm from the sun or even the damage from when it is overcast. More people get skin cancer from when it is overcast than people realize. They think they are safe outside but some of the most damaging rays come right through clouds and fog towards people's skin, especially to the face and hands that are not usually covered up with clothing.
Another important thing as global Warming increases is to realize that harmful rays are more and more getting through our atmosphere to the earth, especially at altitude. So, wearing a good pair of sunglasses is helpful to protect your eyes for longevity. I have a friend who because he has brown eyes he thinks he doesn't need sunglasses. However, recently he had to have laser surgery for a torn retina and I'm trying to encourage him to wear sunglasses more so more damage to his eyes doesn't occur.
So, if you want to be out of doors there are many ways you can now protect yourself, like wearing a hat (baseball or wide brimmed), wearing a beard, wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes for longevity etc.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
