Asking what enlightenment is like is similar to asking what being a grownup is like. It is different for everyone. But I can tell you this. And enlightened person can always sense another enlightened person and even if no words are spoken, a glance, a nod, a recognition passes between them.
An enlightened person can also usually tell a person on the path to enlightenment by asking them a question and looking at their aura. This might be important because a person can lie about being on a sincere path to enlightenment for various reasons. But what a person's aura does cannot be faked. Just like the sun cannot be faked.
But I can tell you what the path to enlightenment has been like for me. It is wonderful and terrible. It is wonderful because one does it not only for oneself but for all beings on earth and throughout the universe. It is terrible because it is never ending and at times mind numbing. But every time another being is grateful for the help you give them it is all worth it. And even if they aren't capable of seeing how you help them the pure knowledge that you have of the situation heals your soul.
As a being moves toward enlightenment they are given more and more gifts. If they are naturally a Seer like me, then the Gift of Pure Seeing everywhere and everywhen grows. At first this is very difficult to deal with because one might not know what to do with all that but soon with prayer one is shown how to incorporate these gifts holistically into oneself, personality and life.
Each gift, as one develops and uses the gifts on has at every point for the benefit of all beings, grows and grows. It doesn't matter at all to an enlightening person whether everyone or no one knows all this is going on. The purpose is never self aggrandizement. The purpose is always entirely to benefit all beings in an altruistic way. But also, so we are clear, there is ALWAYS the component of one's Enlightened Self Interest.
In other words ones own suffering is dramatically reduced, physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally by being on a path to enlightenment. Because enlightenment isn't just about spirituality, it is about learning about everything useful to know about oneself and the whole universe as well as spirituality, religions, God, Buddhas---everything!
Knowing more about everything tends to make a person spiritually, financially, emotionally, and physically wealthy in every way. This does not necessarily mean that one becomes financially rich. For being rich for an enlightened person is more about becoming a storehouse of wisdom and enlightenment than anything else. It is sort of like opening a church or a library full of wisdom and knowledge. Unless an enlightened person is doing something like that, being rich can actually become counter productive to enlightenment.
For example, I didn't consider actually being financially wealthy useful to my enlightenment and all life in the universe's enlightenment until I was in my 40's and saw that I could handle it without making all the mistakes of young wealthy people.(like drugs, sex, parties all over the world and all kinds of crazy misuses of wealth). No, a whole lot of that just makes people crazy. There are very few visionaries and people on the enlightenment path that can survive wealthy excess because it tends to become self destructive and mind and life ending.
So, because of this beings who attain enlightenment lifetime after lifetime tend to do what Jesus did. They make sure they are born into a humble family to learn a trade and to learn good values.
There is a saying in the Bible, "It is easier for a Camel to pass through the eye of the Needle than for a rich man to enter heaven." However, what most people don't know is that they were referring to a path between buildings that a camel could make it through only by taking off its packs and loads of goods. So most people don't really understand the historical significance of this statement.
So, if an enlightened person has a use for becoming wealthy then it might be useful. But it is unlikely useful for a younger person on the enlightenment path because of all the temptations that could lead to various types of oblivion or early death.
Even now, at age 61 I have to be very careful about dealing with wealth because it can change one's life so much if one isn't careful. So even if one is over 40 one has to be very disciplined and focused for being wealthy to be useful and not destructive to ones enlightenment.
