My IH Scout II 1974

The single most amazing 4 wheel drive I have ever owned was a 1974 International Harvester Scout II. It looked just like the Yellow one below until my step son painted it blue years later and finally painted a shark face on it like a p-51 mustang plane. My step son drove it around like that for a year to High School until he sold it to people who were going to drive it on dirt roads down into  Baja California.

This vehicle was only a 6 cylindar but could literally go anywhere. Often in the winter I could be driving through 2 or 3 feet of unplowed snow and would have to remind myself that my 4 wheel drive could be lost there for 2 to 4 months stuck because there wasn't anyone who could pull me out if I got stuck out away somewhere on a dirt road remote and covered with 2 to 3 feet or more of unplowed snow. In compound low in low range I felt like I could almost literally drive up the side of a telephone pole this vehicle was just so very amazing! With a winch (which I didn't have) I likely would have been unstuckable anywhere (as long as a  one to two foot through tree was nearby to winch the Scout off of.
