My Opinion: A culture of Depression Out of Control?

First of all, because of the way I was raised I always thought mood altering drugs were bad. And still, no amount of people telling me that they are okay to take and better than seeing a counselor or therapist changes that (at least for me).

I have an article here I would like you to read if interested where it says (80% of people who are depressed are now choosing mood altering drugs). I think this is really terrible because to even begin to take a mood altering drug you are rewiring your brain away from what the normal was before people started taking prescription Mood Altering drugs  (the Prosac family of mood altering drugs from the strong Prosac  to the mild Paxil).

In this solve everything in 1/2 hour culture we live in taking a mood altering drug may mean you never figure out what is actually bothering you. I suppose it is like if someone perpetrated a crime upon you and you took an amnesiac. This would be something like it. And then imagine the person that raped or shot you came into your life again and you didn't know who they were because you had zapped your memory with an amnesiac so that was permanently washed away out of your mind.

I sort of look at Mood altering drugs of the Prosac family of drugs like taking an amnesiac to try to forget the traumatic events of your life (or at least remove any psychological or emotional connection to these events.

So, maybe taking an amnesiac immediately after a traumatic event might be a much better solution than the permanent nuking of your brain and permanently altering the way you perceive everything for life. Mood altering drugs are very dangerous in what they are doing to you from the first few weeks you start taking them. Just know how you perceive yourself and your whole life will never be the same again.

Is that a good thing?
