Historically, as opposed to religiously speaking, Onanism was a way to prevent extinction of the tribes of Israel 6000 years ago. They had been almost driven extinct at that time (like almost all groups in the middle east at one time or another) so Onanism which literally means "to not spill your seed outside of a woman" was a way to literally make every single shot count in reproducing a tribe as fast as possible as a "survival of the tribe" strategy. On a purely practical "make sure the tribe survives at all costs" makes complete practical sense.
However, in today's era it doesn't make sense at all on a practical level because now the world is beset with literally dying from overpopulation along with EVERY species on Earth. So now we can deal with subtleties like "rape can often be prevented by masturbation' and the fact that often rapists because of religious guilt don't ever masturbate until they become demented and rape instead. The other result is often "Make War Not Love" in people who don't masturbate at all ever.
So, the "Make Love Not WAR" philosophy of the era I grew up in purposely included masturbation as a way of preventing WAR. So it could be said that people who masturbate don't start wars but people who don't ALWAYS do. So, this could be a general principle of warfare whether it be among gangs or among larger terrorist groups.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
