Problems with the Special Committee in Congress
The first problem with the new Special Committee in Congress being hired to work out our debt problems is that "NONE" of them are part of the "Gang of Six" and all of them are hard line democrats and Republicans answering only to their base (democrat or Republican). With a special committee composed of people who are uncompromising by nature and by disposition we can expect them to fail and for the automatic cuts to actually be triggered by their non-action including the Bush Tax Cut automatic repeal, the automatic cuts to the budget in both defense spending and entitlement programs. So by Christmas you might see the poorest areas in U.S. cities burning from a 1/2 reduction in Social Security, Unemployment compensation and medicare just like London and the surrounding area is from similar austere cuts there. And you will see the Defense department also screaming from having its budget reduced by half. The trigger for all this was already in the last bill and will automatically be caused by this committee's now expected deadlock because of who is being chosen for the committee on both sides from both the House and the Senate right now.
