- This aurora australis image was taken during a geomagnetic storm that was most likely caused by a coronal mass ejection from the Sun on May 29, 2010 from The International Space Station located over the Southern Indian Ocean at an altitude of 350 kilometers (220 miles)http://news.yahoo.com/photos/earth-from-space-1320348799-slideshow/handout-image-aurora-australis-observed-international-space-station-photo-150212383.htmlEnd quote.Photos like this amaze me. Recently I have noticed that there are not only green and purple and pink Auroras, there are also pictures of red auroras taken in the past 10 years or so. I had never before today seen pictures taken from space of the Auroras. To think that this is caused by Coronal mass ejections from the sun reacting with particles in our magnetosphere is pretty amazing. I think this sort of thing should be studied more to see what it means for future mankind regarding our atmosphere and magnetosphere and human long term survival here on earth and beyond.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
