Thoughts on the Singularity
I was thinking today one apt description of the Singularity (since none of us has seen one before) (unless you consider reincarnation to be real) might be like a person watching on a microscope a human fetus start out from one cell and not knowing what it was becoming because they had never seen a human being before. As the cell first divides one might say, "Oh. This is becoming such and such. But they would be wrong. Then they might say, "Oh. It's going to be a fish!" But they would be wrong. Then they might say, "Oh. Look it has eyes and a mouth and it breathes water (the amniotic fluid). But they would be wrong. So, at every point the person studying the fetus would be wrong because they had never seen one before. The same is true for all of us in regard to the present coming Singularity. And we are all in this boat of not knowing whether this Singularity will be a Hitler or a Jesus or even someone just like one of us.
