If you are too afraid of dying you can't live and it shortens your life
If you are too fearless you take risks and soon you are dead before your time
These are just two of the paradoxes of being human.
But There are many many more.
If you are so religious and stand up so straight you fall down. Then you can't live either. In some ways you might as well be dead.
But, if you don't believe in anything and don't care whether you live or die you soon are dead. By not believing in anything you can't even believe in yourself and soon you are dead.
There are even more paradoxes of being human.
This is why growing up around people who were more extreme in their thinking I decided that
"Moderation in all things" like the Greeks championed was wise.
I also thought that the Lam Rim which basically states balance in everything and compassion for all beings is also the best path for me.
So, I guess I discovered that extremism of all kinds kills both the person having those views and everyone around them eventually.
So, moderation in all things and practicing kindness towards oneself and all beings I find tends to lead to a happy contented life and longevity for you and your children.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
