There is an old Tibetan Saying that I find true throughout ones life. It is: "One should always be kind to both friends and enemies because over time friends become enemies and enemies become friends"
So, it is in your enlightened self interest to be kind to all beings so no one you know tries to kill you or harm you along the way. And even if people harm you, harming them often isn't useful most of the time. (unless you are physically being attacked at the time.) Being kind to self and others doesn't mean you don't defend yourself when necessary. It just means you are very practical and pragmatic about it.
Kindness to self and others is the surest way to stay alive a long time (At least if you live here in the U.S.)
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
