Electrical utility companies look to be moving towards a state quite similar to pay phones in booths located on street corners did before cell phones. Where are they now?
Likewise by 2030 they might be almost non-existent except in really big cities where having private solar arrays is inconvenient or impossible or there are too many clouds year around to make solar energy useful enough. (even though many solar cells charge from light through clouds almost as well as with direct sunlight already.)
When Cities start pulling themselves off the grid because of too many power outages, you are beginning to see the end of the larger electric utilities. This combined with people pulling their homes off the grid because of being penalized by Utilities for having solar panels only hastens the demise of more and more electric utilities. Then by 2026 with solar being more cost effective than oil in all countries of the world it means that people with solar panels actually pay less in utility electrical costs than people who buy from utilities, oil fired, will be the coup de grace for most electric utilities one by one.
Only the most forward thinking and innovative electrical utilities will be in business after the next 10 years in the U.S.
