I think it was around 1983 when I first met Geshe Lobsang Gyatso who was a Gelukpa Geshe sent by the Dalai Lama to help Lama Yeshe in Boulder Creek, California pass over and reincarnate as a Spanish Boy. He was living then in a home near Santa Cruz overlooking the ocean then. My family (my three older children, my wife and I) were introduced to Geshela at his home then. We all felt an immediate connection to him as a teacher and mentor and as a Tibetan Lama. He became like "family" to us.
But, his specialty was "Long Life White Tara" which is a Tibetan Initiation that brings long life for the Buddhist practitioner. The point being you increase your lifespan in order to pray without ceasing for all living things on earth and beyond in the past, present and future. By praying for this you increase not only your own lifespan but all others also wishing good outcomes for all beings in the past, present and future.
There are 21 Taras which would sort of equate to Mother Mary in the Catholic Tradition and other traditions of Christianity but also to Quan Yin Goddess of Mercy that you also see in Asia as well.
White Tara is one of the 21 Taras of Tibetan Buddhism.
Note: There is also a Padmasambhava Long Life practice as well.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
