Why is this true?
I think the best way to put it might be like this:
Unless you come to a point where you are compassionate enough to yourself to take care of yourself and others you tend to self destruct and offensively destruct others too if you are at odds with yourself and the world enough.
So, learning compassion for yourself and others and teaching compassion might prevent the extinction of the human race now or in the future.
There is an old saying: "He who lives by the sword dies by the sword".
But, I'd like to state another truth that I think is worth mentioning:
"He who has compassion for himself and others may never die."
What does this mean?
It means we are now reaching a place both scientifically and medically speaking where some people might never die anymore.
What does this mean?
It means some of us are never going to die (or at least some of us will live to see 150, 200, 300, 400 or 500 years likely during the next 500 years or so.
Or
Everyone might go extinct. I think it is obviously one or the other.
This likely does not mean that this will happen to everyone but it will happen to some of us if we don't go extinct before then.

To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
