California is in a drought again

December and the first two weeks of January we were fine in regard to rain. But, ever since the 3rd week in January no useful rain to speak of. Along the coast there is always moisture coming ashore in the form of fog (high and low fog) so plants get the benefit of this too. But, the rain we need and the snow we need in the Sierras just isn't coming so far. Since our rainy season is typically either September or October through April into early May it is very unlikely we can make up the rain we have lost so far this year before the end of April. Last Year our rainy season went all the way through May which was very unusual so coastal streams sometimes had water in them late into summer which is unusual along the coast for smaller brooks and streams. But, this year unless we have some pretty good atmospheric rivers soon this is going to continue to be a drought year once again. Most water is coming down north of the Oregon California border and to the East like the flooding in the South East. But, most western states likely are in a drought about now except for Oregon and Washington and just east of there.
