This is still unknown at this time. However, a friend said to me how most viruses tend to kill off their hosts so they don't really spread. They either fade out or kill off too many hosts before they can spread. So, this is why pandemics are sort of rare like the 1918 one that went worldwide. Most haven't done that since simply because we learned to quarantine and treat patients better after this 1918 Spanish Flu came and took out between 50 and 100 million people worldwide.
So, a pandemic is a sort of rare event that only happens like this about once in a century lately. So, if this keeps going it is very unusual for it to keep going very long. But, if it does it could last 2 to 5 years as it keeps mutating likely.
