They are basically like a moving parking garage full of cars (and possibly trucks or pickup trucks depending upon the load).
This is what is on fire near the Azores off of Portugal and the 22 crew members have been rescued from lifeboats because it is on fire. The Crew had to leave because the smoke was too toxic. I'm thinking that the cause of the fire likely was a lithium battery on a hybrid or electric Vehicle. This is the likely scenario because of all the cars involved. So, maybe cars with Lithium batteries should be hauled separately from gas or diesel cars that don't have lithium batteries.
For example, at Moss Landing in California there is Vistra which is the largest electrical battery facility in the U.S. However, there have been two lithium battery fires there caused by batteries that are charged that are overheating there too. Because of the increased capacity of large lithium batteries, power can be produced during cheaper times when there is less demand and be utilized at other times which makes batteries in power stations becoming more cost effective through these new Lithium batteries of the kind you often find in Priuses, Teslas and other hybrids and All Electric Vehicles like Teslas. The bottom photo shows you what one of the levels inside of a car container ship looks like. They are built so you can drive the vehicles on board so cranes don't have to be used. This can greatly speed up loading and unloading if you have a lot of drivers available.
