Why did Pam and Tommy break up in real life?

 

While Tommy attempted to reassure his wife they could get the tape back, he had no idea how helpless he would be. The pair argued over the leaked tape and Pam kicked her husband out, but she fell ill soon after. The world was changing in ways they couldn't predict just like most other decades too. In that decade the big unpredictable thing was the Internet. Most people didn't know what it was or where it was going. For example, Since I had been a computer programmer trained to program in Cobol and Fortran in College and had worked in the field in the late 1960s and early 1970s some. but, by the late 70s and 80s and 90s it was more of a hobby of mine and instead I owned businesses then rather than working as a programmer for money. So, when the Internet started I got a phone modem eventually by 1987 and bought an AT computer that I went online with as soon as I could through AOL and Yahoo which is how this all started at that time through first my AT computer and then eventually I started buyin Pentium computers when they became available too. 

But, Pam and Tommy didn't understand how you could take a tape and ANONYMOUSLY sell it over the Internet. Because this was something so new most people had no idea you could do something like this. And since they did it through Canada and not through California in the U.S. this also shielded the carpenter and his partner in all of this too. This was beyond Pam and Tommy's understanding. The other thing is that the carpenter stole Tommy's safe and because he didn't use the safe much didn't notice it was stolen for weeks or months until he wanted to put something new and valuable into it. by this time hundreds and maybe thousands of these VCR Video tapes or possibly CDs too had been sold worldwide and other people had made bootleg copies and began selling it in person or online too worldwide because it was the best thing anyone had seen of it's kind.

So, about the time Pamela was pregnant with their first child the 'Shit hit the Fan" and they had to deal with realizing what had happened and this caused Pam to Miscarry their child at the hospital in real life. The loss like this of a child breaks up many couples and this was the beginning of the end for them as well. When Tommy couldn't protect Pamela from the shame of this tape coming out she lost faith in him as a mate and they eventually broke up because of this. So, this tape getting out led to their eventual breakup.
