My father and grandfather were very much into pragmatism simply because it is how you survive and get your family and friends to survive too. It's very basic. How do you survive another day?
You eat food that will keep you well. You drink water that isn't poisonous. You wear clothes so you are warm enough to survive and you either find a place to live or build a place yourself. You take care of your family and friends and they in turn take care of you.
This is pragmatism and it's been this way in my father's family since 6 brothers came from Switzerland to Philadelphia up the river there in 1725. So, pragmatism is how you help avoid being just another death statistic here in the U.S.
Since it came from a Greek word meaning "deed" it reminds me of:
"You shall know them by their deeds"
