It was drizzling all the way up to Mt. Shasta from the SF Bay area to the point where when we reached Mt. Shasta city you could not see the mountain at all. Here's a Google Stock photo of people climbing up from it looks like the Old Ski Bowl.
The old Ski bowl was gone by the early 1970s because of an avalanche which wiped it out then. However, as a child I rode the ski lift up in the 1960s with my parents and a cousin which is likely the same path these climbers are on now in the photo. It is above where Panther Meadows is but often the road is closed during the snowy season from Bunny Flat up to here then.

The Cloud Ocean
This following photo is what the Summit of Mt. Shasta usually looks like unless it's covered with snow. I summited Mt. Shasta in August of 1970 when I was 22 years old. I think this guy is holding an ice axe up in the air in this photo. Your ice axe and your crampons (spikes for snow attached to your climbing boots are two of your best friends going up the mountain or down most times of the Year when climbing it.
