Dropped friends off at Kahului Airport to return to Mainland and drove up to top of Haleakala

Basically, You CAN drive up to the top of Haleakala National Park still it's just no one is there to help you in an emergency from the Rangers who have to be off duty because they aren't being paid I think (as in All National Parks right now. However, you can drive up there but you are on your own basically. So, we drove up to the top of the road where the Silver Swords are which is something that I think only grows on Hawaii by the way.

So, as we drove up through the clouds today we were not expecting to see anything but mist and clouds and there was a lot of this. But, some places we could see down to Haiku and other places we could see down to Kahului, Wailuku and even over towards Kihei and Lahaina and Ka'anapali  in west Maui.

It was like being up with the angels in many ways or flying over clouds in a plane or jet plane.

Really amazing feeling being in the middle of the ocean on a mountain 10,000 feet high on Maui right next to the Haleakala Crater. Good Stuff!

However, if you go remember to down shift your car even if it has an automatic transmission so you don't get brake fade coming down. This is really important so you can survive driving down the steep grades on the mountain coming back down to cities like Paia and Makawao and Kahului and Wailuku and others.
