However, like one week you would work a little longer than the next so you could give your alternate lookout a break every other week. But it all averaged out during the season that basically in an average season each person worked approximately 3.5 days a week on 24 hours a day.
However, you were on duty 12 hours a day looking for fires than you were off duty but still on call. I think it might have been 6am to 6 pm you were on duty if I remember correctly because remember this is 40 years ago I did this for 2 seasons.
It also allowed me that year to go to India, Nepal, Thailand and Japan for around 4 or 5 months then too from December 11th of 1985 when we flew to Narito Airport in Japan until about April of 1986 when we flew back to San Francisco Airport in California from Narito Airport in Japan again.
So, the flight was like this in December 1985
SFO (San Francisco)
Narito Japan
Bangkok Thailand
Kathmandu Nepal
Then the return was late march or early April of 1986:
Kathmandu
Bangkok, Thailand
Narito Airport
And SFO San Francisco International Airport
