My wife just informed me of a scientific fact that I had not heard of before. I cannot verify this myself so If you want to I wouldn't know where to verify it. HOwever, if it is true it goes like this.
"If a big enough chunk of Antarctic ice broke off all at once it would automatically cause a wobble in the earths rotation along its axis. If the wobble doesn't settle down immediately this might be enough to reverse the poles. Now, reversing the poles does NOT mean earth goes upside down suddenly. What it does mean is that it would be like suddenly turning a pole magnet upside down so the north pole becomes the south pole and the south pole becomes the north pole. It is a magnetic and electrical change not a physical change outside of the wobble created by the breaking off of too much Antarctic ice at one time"
The scenario if it happened wouldn't allow any crops to be grown for about 5 years and it is relatively unknown if anything electrical would work or not until it is redesigned during those 5 years because all things electrical are magnetically based in that electricity(except for solar cells) is all generated by breaking magnetic fields of one or more magnets.
Another thing my wife was saying was "What if a crazy or terrorist nuked a large section of ice off in order to create say a religious apocalyptic event to temporarily or permanently end human civilization." For example, say a rich preacher (Christian or Muslim) decided to help the end of the world along so everyone could return to God such a scenario could also happen by boring a long tunnel or strategically placing explosives on the surface of a large ice outcropping in Antarctica.
You might say, "Is it useful to know this?" I would say it is in your enlightened self interest to know about it so it can be prevented.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
