Mandatory evacuation ordered in Dos Vientos
Camarillo Springs fire now 2,000 acres
Residents are being advised to leave the area to the east toward Reino Road to evacuate Dos Vientos area. Newbury Park High School and Sycamore Canyon School have both reportedly been evacuated.
The Red Cross has established an evacuation shelter at Calvary Community Chapel, 380 Mobil Avenue in Camarillo, and at Thousand Oaks Community Park, 2525 N. Moorpark Road.
The Ventura County Fire Department reported before 9 a.m. that the fire was at zero percent containment and was moving quickly towards Newbury Park.
The slow lane on the southbound 101 Freeway was closed to protect commuters and to give fire trucks room to access the fire. Borchard Road at Reino Road and Potrero Road at Via Las Brisas have also been closed due to the ongoing fire fight.
Firefighters from the Ventura County Fire Department, Cal Fire and crews from Oxnard and Ventura city departments are on hand battling the fire on steep, rocky terrain. Two fixed-wing air tankers were called in to make flame retardant drops on the fire.
