My father was a Libertarian in his thinking and I understand this point of view as well because it was the viewpoint of those who started this country. It is about taking care of your own before you go out and change the world around you as a country. It is making sure all the needs of your family and friends are taken care of before you send money overseas.
I think since World War II we have been so busy saving the world that we have lost ourselves. Whether anyone else takes over our role as "World Savior" as a country or not we still need to take care of ourselves first or we won't be able to help anyone including ourselves. Being Pragmatic and practical like our ancestors were who actually survived and prospered through almost anything we must become again or our nation and all it stands for will fail and be gone from the world stage.
Rand Paul recently wrote a book he calls: “Government Bullies: How
Everyday Americans are Being Harassed, Abused, and Imprisoned by the
Feds.”
I think that Rand Paul and before him his father Ron Paul are principled people worth listening to no matter what your party affiliation is.
I tend to be an independent because both parties tend to go to excess when they are in power for more than about 4 to 6 years in the presidency. Each party tends to go to it's own extremes. The Tea Party for example has vexed the Democratic Party and caused some of problems with the IRS for example. I think the Democrats were terrified by the inaction of government in this era.
However, extremes of points of views have always been a part of the American system. It has always been to our long term benefit that political parties can demonstrate rather than "get out their guns" and start shooting. Other countries often don't have this right to different points of view. I would argue that over the long run we are stronger for our diverse points of view even though I also am horrified by the Gridlock of Government the last decade or so.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
