‘Frozen’s’ Arctic Box Office Blast: Disney’s Animated Family Film Crosses $500M Worldwide
Frozen, the Walt Disney Animation Studios release that set the record for the largest Thanksgiving debut in history with $93.6 (five-day) is crossing the $500M worldwide box office mark today. This is the fourth release from the studio to pass the $500 mark this year following Marvel’s Iron Man 3, Disney-Pixar’s Monsters University, and Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World. Both Frozen and The Dark World are still playing domestically and internationally. The Thor sequel has smashed its way to a global cume of $629.3M to date. The animated family film held solidly over the Christmas holiday both in the U.S. and abroad, taking in another $50.5M in its fifth week of release from 43 territories (representing about 71% of the international marketplace). It held well in Italy, Germany, and France and opened well in Australia over the weekend’s national holiday of Boxing Day.

Disney is announcing that it will break the $250M mark today in the States, having taken in an estimated $248M cume through Sunday to date. Frozen has yet to open in several more larger territories such as China, Brazil, Argentina, Korea and Japan so expect it to sail even higher. On Christmas eve, Frozen passed the domestic total of Tangled, becoming Walt Disney Animation Studio’s second biggest film domestically behind its wildly successful The Lion King.
