I think this is an introductory 30 minute documentary segment introducing the audience to the designing and building of the U.S. Atomic Bomb during world war II. The fate of western civilization hung in the balance and 100 american soldiers were then dying every single day. "Manhattan" is the series name.

For me, I studied about this growing up in Grade School and High School and college in the 1950s, 1960s and into the 1970s. However, today's students might not study about this as much. There was a lot of turmoil worldwide over the building of the atomic bomb and a whole lot of guilt and horror that led right into Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and the Cold War with Russia and eventually Red China and everyone behind the "Iron Curtain."
Since we are either now in a continuance of the old Cold War that ended 23 years ago or a new one with Russia and likely China this might be important to know all this sort of began during World War II. It helps to understand how we got here today.
The Manhattan project with Oppenheimer also shows how something this secret also turned into the UFO secrecy and Area 51 using similar types of secrecy spawned during World War II where even the Vice President at the time didn't know. NOW often the President doesn't even know because of "Plausible deniability" when he speaks to the public.
