By setting Hezbollah against ISIS he might think that he is ending all terrorists (both Shiite and ISIS and Al Qaeda) by setting Shiites against Sunnis. However, that isn't likely true except in the present. Because if you create millions of refugees (9 million just in Syria of mostly Sunnis) and countless others in Iraq and Yemen in the long run you likely are just creating MORE suicide terrorists for the future because having lost fathers and mothers any that survive are going to hate countries like Russia more for helping set Sunnis and Shiites upon each other in an unending way.
So, though Putin might be eliminating present day terrorists by having them all kill each other in Syria, Iraq and Yemen and other Sunni and Shiite countries, in the long run a dead father or mother only creates more young angry suicide terrorists on both sides in the future. So, what I'm saying here is that Putin likely is making the future much worse and not better by his stance.
However, maybe he only cares about when he is alive and ruling Russia and not what happens to Russia after he is gone.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
