SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) - A string of significant earthquakes hit the Pacific's "Ring of Fire" over the course of just two days, and that's raising concerns about whether a big quake is about to hit California.
The so-called "Ring of Fire" is a horseshoe-shaped geological disaster zone.
It loops from New Zealand to Chile, passing through the coasts of Asia and the Americas.
It's a seismic hot zone. And the fact that there have been 69 sizable quakes over Sunday and Monday has some people worried.
Scientists have warned in the past that "Ring of Fire" activity might trigger a domino effect, setting off quakes and volcanic eruptions in other places.
They've suggested that California, which straddles the San Andreas Fault and is on the eastern edge of the ring, is overdue for a deadly earthquake.
The recent quakes rattled Indonesia, Bolivia, Japan, and Fiji--but didn't reach the U.S. West Coast.
The U.S.G.S has indicated that it's monitoring the situation.
