Because of the way his life started.
He was the son of a rich Tibetan who died and left his wealth in his brother's hands. The brother enslaved Milarepa's mother and sister and used the wealth himself instead of as his brother wished.
Milarepa's mother's was enraged by how she was treated and saved money and sent Milarepa to a sorcerer to learn how to kill his uncle and family. At a wedding Milarepa brought down a hailstorm which killed about 25 people in his uncle's wedding party. But, experiencing remorse he went to Marpa, A Buddhist Dharma teacher to expiate his bad karma which he did over the rest of his life by meditating in caves mostly.
He is the most famous of all the Yogis of Tibet because if he could become a Mahsiddha after all the things he did as a young man as a sorcerer then there is hope for all of us becoming Mahasiddhas and fully perfected at some point in our lives.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
