I think it's far more useful to see it as the "Wrath of Mother Nature". It makes more logical sense this way and takes you away from a sort of "Daddy Spank" and being terrified in ways not useful to your ongoing survival.
Coronavirus is just nature saying, "You, mankind, have just screwed everything up so much we are taking our world back!"
This likely is a much more useful way to look at it.
Could the whole human race go extinct through this process?
Not if we are logical and rational about all this we won't.
But, if people get too crazy (like Trump and Xi of China presently are) we could all go extinct.
