since California is around 40 million people and the 5th largest economy all by itself on earth we have done fairly well in regard to coronavirus so far

When you look at states and the numbers you have to realize that California is around 40 million people compared to Texas which is only 29 million people and Florida which is around 21 million people and Georgia which is around 10.62 million people. So, population wise California is the largest state. Area wise I think both Texas and Alaska are larger than California though.
