which is about 8 degrees more than yesterday. It's been quite some time (almost 2 years) since I was here in Orange California because of Covid. I found it somehow strange but also comforting to leave Las Virgenes Canyon road and head into the San Fernando Valley where my best friend lived until he passed on in 2006. I grew up in Glendale from 1956 when I was 8 until I was 21 when I moved to San Diego to attend college there. So, there are many good and bad memories of this area for me even including Las Virgenes Canyon Rd. off of the Ventura Freeway (Highway 101 basically) where I would drive my old 1956 Ford Station wagon (my surf wagon) to the beach for surfing or Scuba diving or body surfing with friends from the time I was 16 years old in 1964. We would have our 10 foot plus surf boards of those times hanging out the back of my station wagon and I would have the rear seats down in the station wagon so the 10 foot boards would fit in and hang out the back of the wagon only a little bit then.
My best friend also owned a 1951 red Ford convertible so that before I bought my surf wagon we would drive to Huntington Beach with two surfboards sticking straight down under the driver and passenger seats with the boards straight up into the air and strangely enough the police didn't stop us from doing this from Glendale to Huntington Beach and back when I was 15 years old then. The times were much different than now. The Viet Nam war was kind of just getting going and my friend didn't have to join the Air Force until 1969 when he was around 21 years old to repair jet engines yet in Thailand on fighter jets and B-52 bombers yet. Things were still good surfing and body surfing and snorkeling and Scuba Diving on the coast or on Catalina Island taking the Great White steamship then to Catalina to rent a power boat to Scuba dive there at Emerald cove there on Catalina Island.
